What Is CELPIP?
CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) is a Canadian test that assesses the English language skills of individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada. A candidate’s listening, reading, writing, and speaking abilities in the English language are judged by the CELPIP test which is offered in two different formats:
- CELPIP General: Suited for candidates who need proof of their English language proficiency when applying for a Permanent Resident status in Canada. It is IRCC approved.
- CELPIP General LS: Suited for candidates who need proof of their listening and speaking skills in English when applying for a Canadian Citizenship. It is IRCC approved.

Exam Pattern CELPIP TEST
CELPIP-General TEST: It is divided into four sections:
Speaking (15–20 minutes)
Writing (53–60 minutes)
Reading (55–60 minutes)
Listening (47–55 minutes).
The maximum time duration for the CELPIP-General Test is 3 hours.

Writing Section
It has two writing tasks every task is allowed 150-200 words on a given topic. The words are counted simultaneously as you are typing it.
Task 1: 27 mins (Writing an email)
Task 2: 26 mins (Responding to Survey Questions)
Speaking Section
It has 8 tasks in this section.
Every task needs recording for 60-90 seconds.
One is given 30 seconds of preparation time.
It helps in examining the spoken English by recording the responses while speaking into a microphone.
